My Monthly Massage Is A Mind, Body And Soul Must-have

My workaholic mother-in-law frowns upon it, thinking I’m being frivolous and self-indulgent, but I swear by the massages I schedule for myself every four weeks.

Some people save their sanity by reading, walking, working out at the gym or having a glass wine (oh, I do all of those too), or they indulge in other distractions like parting, compulsive shopping or overeating (not exactly the healthiest of choices), but when life’s pressures start piling up, nothing beats the total relaxation you get from letting someone knead away all the knots and tension from your muscles and your mind!

It’s amazing the places your stress and anxiety end up. Did you know that most of the tension in your body affects the muscles above the neck? As soon as the therapist starts massaging my face and scalp, I can just feel each little muscle relax one by one. Soon my mind is calm too, and when I leave the appointment I feel like nothing could bother me in the world.

Massages aren’t just a treat. Stress is a serious contributor to health problems, and I sorely believe that these regular sessions are helping keep me happy, alive and well–mentally and physically.
